SACD layer: Stereo, Multi-Channel 5.0 British composer Arthur Bliss served as Director of Music for the BBC during World War II, and after the war, he was in charge of music programs for three broadcasting stations. In 1953, he succeeded Arnold Bax as "Master of the Queen's Music". This album focuses on two important works in the brass band (brass band) repertoire: "Kenilworth," a challenge for the 1936 British Brass Band Championships, and the "Belmont Variations" from 1962. Also included are "Four Dances" from the ballet Checkmate, arranged for brass by another composer, and a suite from the film The World to Come, as well as new arrangements for this album by Robert Childs and Michael Halstenson. These arrangements are faithful to Bliss's ambitious style, which is rooted in the English tradition of folk music, but also incorporates neoclassical styles and even jazz. The Black Dyke Band is one of the most successful brass bands in the world, with a long history dating back to 1855, and has produced more than 350 recordings and won numerous competitions. 2023 saw the appointment of conductor John Wilson, who has made a series of famous recordings with the Sinfonia of London, as honorary president. The orchestra has welcomed John Wilson, a conductor who has made a series of famous recordings with the Sinfonia of London. The Black Dyke Band's signature advanced ensemble and British brass sound with depth in its splendor, John Wilson's prestigious music-making, honed through his experience with symphony orchestras, and the recording of Brian Pidgeon and Ralph Cousins, renowned for their work on the famous Sinfonia of London, bring the sound of brass to a new level. With Brian Pidgeon and Ralph Cousins recording, you can expect a brass sound of a new dimension. This release is available on SACD hybrid disc, which captures the brilliant sound of the highly sophisticated ensemble in a high-quality recording. (Naxos Japan)
