Description:
This is a collection of works by composer Michael Berkley, born in 1948. Born the eldest son of Lennox Barkley, Michael studied piano and singing at the Royal Academy of Music in England while playing in the rock band "Seeds of Discord," demonstrating his versatility. He began composing music in earnest in his late twenties under Richard Rodney Bennett. Eventually, in 1979, he came to prominence when he was appointed associate composer of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Since then, Berklee has released numerous works, and this album features a collection of pieces that resulted from collaborations with his many friends. Two haiku-inspired collections feature Claire Hammond on piano and Mahan Esfahani on harpsichord. From a piece for unaccompanied violin born of grief over the loss of a close friend to "Zero Hour," featuring Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant, you will enjoy a fascinating array of works from Michael's many years of composition.
