Performers Anna Tilbrook (Piano) Jack Liebeck (Violin).... .1,5 Recorded: November 29, 2022 and May 16, 2023 St George's Church, Pinner View, Harrow Henry Wood loved his Tristis (meaning bitterness, sadness, etc.),He conducted the Promenade Concerts for five consecutive years from 1919 to 1923 (a version for violin and piano is included at the end of this album). Born "Frederick Kessler" to a family of German descent, Lawrence was acclaimed for his progressive style, and in his mid-twenties he was highly praised for his "apparently difficult but high-quality music" and for his "glorious future. After World War I broke out and anti-German sentiment grew, he changed his surname to English, and gained attention for his classical and film music compositions, but due to his early death, his works have been buried in history and few recordings exist. This album is a rare release that gives us a sound of his work. (Naxos Japan)
