The second ALPHA concert, which will showcase the breadth of Abduraimov's talent, is an ambitious program that was also performed in Japan! Since winning the first prize at the 2009 London International Piano Competition, the new generation pianist from Uzbekistan, Bevzod Abduraimov, has been steadily building up his performance experience. Following his ALPHA debut disc in 2021, which combined Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Debussy's The Domain of the Child with Chopin's 24 Preludes, this long-awaited second volume is the program performed at his recital in Tokyo in June 2023. In this ambitious program, two contrasting works, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, with its succession of unique pieces, and Ravel's Gaspar at Night, with its three mysterious chapters, are interspersed with works by Dirom Saidaminova, also from Uzbekistan, a composer active since the Soviet era. The interpretation is full of highlights, with excellent control, bringing out the subtleties of each work in vivid relief, while weaving together a richly scaled music as a whole.Abduraimov's suite of works by Saidaminova traces the ancient city of Bukhara, his hometown, back to ancient times, and he vividly portrays the different sonic compositions of each movement, offering a wide variety of flavors from thrilling developments to poetic reverberations. His wide-ranging expression and precise compositional skills in "Gaspar de l'Oeil," which moves freely between serenity and fascinating opulence, are also ear-catching in every detail of his interpretation.
