Humperdinck's masterpiece opera "The King's Children" by Roy & Albrecht! A wandering king's son meets a beautiful girl who lives in the forest with a witch and takes care of her geese. In order to regain his lost royalty, first the king's son and then the daughter, who learns from a witch and a bard that she is a royal child, leave the forest and visit the city, but the people of the city do not accept them and reject them. They flee the city, and after wandering in the woods, they are so hungry that they eat poisoned bread that is cursed by the witches. ...... This Mächen opera, "The King's Children," was composed by Engelbert Humperdinck to a libretto by Ernst Rosmer. The world premiere was given in 1910 at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, where the legendary Geraldine Farrar sang the role of the Goose Girl to great acclaim. Like Humperdinck's masterpiece "Hansel and Gretel," this Märchen opera is based on the Grimm's fairy tale, but the ending of the story is the exact opposite of the happy ending of "Hansel and Gretel": the two main characters, both young royals, suffer a tragic end.Humperdinck makes full use of the brilliant and profoundly detailed orchestral technique he inherited from his teacher Wagner, and gives the characters recitative singing, creating a true musical drama. The production features a stellar cast of singers, including Daniel Behle as the King's son, Olga Kruczynska as the Goose Girl, and Joseph Wagner as the Bard. The collaboration between popular director Christoph Roy, who has made headlines for his many innovative projects, and Marc Albrecht, honored as the 2019 Conductor of the Year at the International Opera Awards in the UK, will bring to this production, which has been overshadowed by "Hansel and Gretel," an exciting new production of the same name that has been in the works for many years. The production sheds a fresh light on this work, which seems to have been overshadowed by "Hansel and Gretel," through ingenious stage design that includes dancers dancing and mime, and the insertion of black-and-white projected images.
