A gorgeous competition of soloists! Ole Schmidt's Concerto Collection on SACD Hybrid Ole Schmidt is a pianist, conductor, and composer, and is one of the leading Nordic musicians of our time. His music is influenced by Bartók, Stravinsky, and French modern and contemporary music, but also has a Scandinavian clarity, a vibrant rhythmic energy, and a sense of humor. The three concertos on this album are his most important works and showcase Ole Schmidt's refined sensibility. In the "Concerto Pieces," the trumpets and trombones are in full force, creating a lively concerto grosso atmosphere with a consistent sense of humor. The "Tuba Concerto" brings out the expressive power of the tuba to its fullest, and the "Concerto for Horn and Chamber Orchestra" with its dreamy and playful, lighthearted movements is also a work worth listening to. The Orboa Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Bellincampi, will give a wonderful performance, with the Berlin Philharmonic's principal conductor, Stefan Dohr, and other virtuosos as soloists.
