Description:
Sharon Kam's third album for the ORFEO label is a collection of Hindemith's works. Hindemith, a German composer who was a prominent member of the next generation after Richard Strauss, was known for his ability to play a variety of instruments, and he excelled on the clarinet. Here, Kamm performs a concerto, a quartet, and a sonata. The quartet is a masterful rendition of the Hindemith quartet. The quartet was written in 1938, the year Hindemith moved to Switzerland. The second movement was composed first, and the remaining movements were composed after the premiere of the opera "Matisse the Painter" in Zurich, a complex and technical music with four instrumental melodies. The following year, he composed a clarinet sonata with a playful melody, and the 1947 concerto, dedicated to the virtuoso Benny Goodman, is a light work in the neoclassical style. The thick orchestral accompaniment is also attractive.
