Description:
Here comes an album celebrating Komitas (real name: Soghomon Soghomonian), an Armenian priest, musicologist, and singer. Komitas was born in 1869. He lost his parents at an early age, received his education at an Armenian seminary, and became a priest in 1894, but is known to have been involved in the Armenian Genocide and suffered a mental illness that led to his tragic end. He is also known as the "Father of Armenian Music" for his work in identifying and preserving the unique accents in the vast amount of Armenian folk music and songs he collected through fieldwork. This album of works in the Comitas tradition features three world premiere recordings, including one of Babajanian's "20th century classics" and an arrangement of folk songs from Comitas's "Six Armenian Pieces". Performed by Trio Eternus, formed in 2013 by a British violinist, an Armenian cellist, and a Polish pianist. Naxos Japan
