The Tetzlaff Quartet is a string quartet acclaimed around the world. Formed in 1994 by violinist Christian Tetzlaff and his sister, Tanya, and featuring Elisabet Kufferath, former concert mistress of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and Hannah Weinmeister, principal of the Zurich Opera Orchestra, they are regular performers at European music festivals. Their second release on the ONDINE label features two string quartets by Beethoven, whose 250th birthday will be celebrated in 2020. Beethoven's 250th birthday will be celebrated in 2020. Completed in 1825, No. 13 was written after No. 15 in the order of composition, and at the time of its premiere, a "grand fugue" was placed in the last movement. However, following the advice of his publisher, Beethoven replaced it with another movement, and the "Grand Fugue" is now given a different work number. In this album, the Tetzlaff Quartet recreates the form in which it was first performed. In the last movement, a magnificent grand fugue is placed. Beethoven originally conceived of No. 15 in four movements, but after recovering from his illness, he added a beautiful third movement titled "Lydia, a sacred song of thanksgiving to God from the healed.The result is a lengthy work.
