Description:
Aubert, the forgotten master of French opera, reissued his rare recordings! Aubert studied composition under Cherubini, and in 1842 he was appointed director of what is now the Paris Conservatory, and in 1852 he was appointed music director of the royal chapel of Napoleon III. Although his works were popular at the Paris Opera at the time, they are rarely performed in their entirety today. This reissue of one of his masterpieces, written in collaboration with the librettist Eugène Scribe, is based on a rare broadcast recording made by the Austrian Radio in 1953. The singing is in German, and can be enjoyed with the traditional Viennese sound. The story is a development of the tale contained in "Arabian Nights" and takes place in China. The bronze horse takes all the men on its back to Venus, where the women, led by the beautiful Princess Stella, are waiting. If they solve the problems they are assigned there, they can choose one of the beautiful women and return to Earth together, but if they fail to solve the problems, they are sent back alone, and if they tell others about their experience, they are turned to stone. This is the story of the princes and old officials who are involved with this bronze horse. Naxos Japan
