Description:

Gaspare Spontini (1774-1851):Opera "The Transfiguration of Pasquale" with music by Falsa Giacosa / Giuseppe Foppa:ScriptThe Duke and Constanza meet secretly in the garden of the Baron's castle. However, Constanza's father, the baron, will not allow the duke and Constanza to marry because of an ancestral quarrel. Then along comes a knight, Constanta's forgiving wife. The knight and the duke end up fighting a duel over Constanza. Then Pasquale appears. He devises a plan to save the day. Spontini's opera in one act, "The Transfiguration of Pasquale," his last work in Italy, premiered in 1802 at the Teatro San Moseo in Venice to great acclaim for its lively music. Spontini then moved from Paris to Berlin, at which time the work was thought to have been lost, but in 2016 it was discovered for the first time in 200 years in the library of the Marquis de Ursell in Belgium. Based on a score that remained in incredibly good condition, the latest comparative revision, prepared by Federico Agostinelli, conveys the atmosphere of early 19th century Italy to the fullest. It is a co-production of the "Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini" in Yerge and the "Teatro La Fenice" Foundation, featuring a lineup of young Italian singers.
