Description:
Siloe, King of Persia" by Metastasio, a scriptwriter who dominated the 18th century, and whose work on the same subject was written by Handel in 1728. Vinci's work was premiered in Venice in 1726, prior to that, with great success. The plot and treachery of King Siloe and his family, and Siloe's fatherly love and sincerity in the face of these conspiracies, are painstakingly portrayed as if in a Shakespearean play. This production uses the revised version by Florio, a musicologist, and is a wonderful reminder of the first performance. The singing skills of the two singers in the roles of Siloe and Kosloe are particularly impressive and bring out the charm of the unknown opera to the fullest. Naxos Japan
