He is said to have been involved in as many as 20,000 or 30,000 sessions and to have over 4,000 albums with his name engraved on them. This is the memorable first leader album released in 1968 by Bernard Purdie, a legendary drummer who also played on sessions with James Brown and Bob Marley before his breakthrough. The funky groove that he produced throughout the album, from standard numbers to original compositions, was appreciated by the later hip-hop/rare groove generation, and has earned an unshakeable position as the "holy grail of breakbeat music".The members of the "Staff" (Richard Tee and Eric Gale) are noteworthy, and their contribution to the band's success in building a groovy ensemble that was not only funky but also sophisticated in 1968 is also a major reason for the success of this album. Includes obi commentary.
