Description:
Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Hidemi Suzuki and Orchestra Libera Classica (OLC) The Complete Haydn Symphonies (4CD) is finally here! The original recordings by renowned engineer Taku Sakurai have been meticulously remastered by Keisuke Saito of Altus. Who knew Haydn’s music could be so vivid, dynamic, and beautiful! New mastering. There are actually many “Haydn fans” out there. I sincerely hope this release will bring them joy. —Hidemi Suzuki Orchestra Libera Classica (OLC) was founded in 2001 by Hidemi Suzuki, who was captivated by Haydn, with the aim of performing Haydn’s works and pursuing authentic interpretations of Classical-era music. It has been 25 years since the orchestra held its first concert at Hamarikyu Asahi Hall in 2002. From the very beginning, the ensemble has adopted an unconventional approach of live-recording the entire program of every concert and releasing each performance on CD, resulting in approximately 50 titles to date. To mark the 25th anniversary of Orchestra Libera Classica (OLC), we are pleased to announce the release of this long-awaited symphony collection. The first volume of the collection begins with Haydn’s “Sorrow,” a masterpiece composed during his prime in his 40s while serving at the Esterházy court, and continues with the symphonies in the 50s, which vividly showcase Haydn’s creativity. Although Haydn had become famous, he had never visited Paris—yet his popularity exploded there in his absence! The symphonies of the 80s, which garnered even greater acclaim than Mozart’s and feature large orchestral scores, are included here. Although Haydn had modestly declined repeated invitations to visit England, after leaving the court at the age of 58, he traveled to England and achieved great success; this collection carefully selects all 11 symphonies up to the “London” Symphony. Additionally, the “Imperial” Symphony—one of the works that first captivated Hidemi Suzuki—includes an alternate version of the finale. One of the delights of this collection is that it allows listeners to retrace Haydn’s journey through a carefully curated selection of works—beginning with the unique compositions featuring the exquisitely cohesive instrumentation of his time with the Esterházy court orchestra, and progressing through the increasingly large and diverse ensembles that marked his rise to popularity, all the way to the grand, classical symphonic formations he achieved in Paris and London. The booklet includes liner notes penned by Hidemi Suzuki himself, as well as accurate and detailed lists of instrumentalists for each piece (making it immediately clear how the ensembles grow larger as the program progresses). This set truly allows listeners to savor the thrill of hearing Haydn’s symphonies in their most authentic form. ARTEDELL'ARCO
