The Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra awarded the title of "Honorary Conductor" to Dmitriy Kitayenko, who has never held the position of "Chief Conductor", because of his many highly acclaimed recordings. The complete symphonies of Shostakovich (Capriccio C49545), Prokofiev (C7190), Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky (OEHMS OC027) are unparalleled in their mobility, precise composition, and powerful tone. The complete recording of Tchaikovsky's opera "Iolanta" (OC963) was released after the symphony recording was completed, and the depth of Kitayenko's devotion to the work can be felt. While the suite version of this work is often performed, Kitaenko has chosen to perform the complete work, giving the audience the full story in its entirety.The highly focused performance, which does not distract the listener's ears for even a moment, clearly demonstrates the good relationship between Kitayenko and the orchestra. Stravinsky's "The Fairy's Kiss" recorded in the margins is also superb. Naxos Japan
