A new milestone in Brahms performance. Igor Levitt, who surprised music fans with the release of "Mendelssohn; Silent Songs" shortly after the release of his album "Fantasia" last fall, has already released a new album. This 3-CD set combines two piano concertos by Brahms and a collection of piano pieces from his later years. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Thielemann performs with Levitt and Thielemann. Levitt and Thielemann first performed together in 2015 with the Staatskapelle Dresden in Mozart's Piano Concerto. The two hit it off immediately with their superb performance. This is Thielemann's second Brahms piano concerto recording (the first was with Pollini in the 2010s). DISC 3 features Levitt's solo performance of Brahms' late piano masterpieces (Op. 116-119). The album ends with a surprise.Thielemann and Levitt perform No. 15, the best-known of the 39 Waltzes for 4-handed piano, in a joint performance.
