The new album "Monument to Beethoven" is an interesting concept album themed on a tribute to the historical Beethoven.The idea of erecting a monument in Bonn, Beethoven's birthplace, was born in the 1830s and became a revolutionary initiative realized by musicians, musicologists, and citizens. Many of the most famous composers of the time, including Liszt, Schumann, Mendelssohn, and Chopin, donated their own works, arrangements, or concert proceeds to support the statue's construction. In this album, Nikolai Khozhainov has selected music of particularly high quality from among the works that contributed to the fundraising for the Beethoven monument, each with its own, sometimes distinct, sometimes more subtle connection to the composer Beethoven. In addition to Liszt's arrangement of the moving Allegretto movement of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony for solo piano, Schumann's varied Exercises on a Theme by Beethoven, Mendelssohn's Strict Variations, and Schumann's Piano Fantasy, there is also Nikolai Khozhainov's own composition, Petals of Peace (Petals of Peace), a composition by Nikolai Khozhainov.This "Petals of Peace" is a piano piece composed for a peace concert held in 2022 at the Alliance of Human Rights and Civilizations Room at the United Nations Secretariat in Geneva, and was also performed for the first time in Japan during the 2024 concert in Japan. *Recording: January 11-12, 2024, Mendelssohn Hall, Leipzig Gewandhaus (Tokyo M-Plus)
