C.P.E. Bach: St. Mark Passion (1786 Edition / World Premiere Recording) World premiere recording! The St. Mark Passion, left behind by the second son of the great Bach in his later years! The latest release in Capriccio’s series of sacred works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is his “final” St. Mark Passion. C.P.E. Bach composed a far greater number of Passions than his father, J.S. Bach, who wrote three, including unfinished ones. Five premieres of the *St. Mark Passion* are recorded—in 1770, 1774, 1778, 1782, and 1786—and this release features the fifth and final version. Like the *St. John Passion* (60103) and the *St. Matthew Passion* (1785 version / 60113) previously released by Capriccio, this recording of the *St. Mark Passion* also utilizes precious sheet music preserved in the collection of the Berlin Singakademie. This recording is a live recording from a concert held at the Glocke Great Hall in Bremen on April 10–11, 2006, and is, of course, the world premiere recording. The performances by the Mendelssohn Sinfonia & Europa Choir Academy—founded by conductor Daus himself—and the soloists are outstanding. This “final” recording of the St. Mark Passion stands as proof of a masterpiece in which the talent inherited from the great Bach is displayed to the fullest! (Tokyo M-Plus) ・C.P.E.
