This fascinating lineup features concertos by Ravel, Prokofiev, and Britten, composed at the request of Paul Wittgenstein, who is often mentioned in connection with this genre, as well as smaller works by Scriabin and Bartók. In addition, the performing lineup is superb. The musicians are from well-established sources: François and Cluytens for Ravel, Zelkin and Ormandy for Prokofiev, and Katchen and the composer for Britten. In addition, Scriabin, played by Gavrilov, is also an unknown source. In both cases, the composers use pianistic tricks and craftsmanship to amazing effect, more than two-handed.
