Anna Kisjudit ( Mezzo-soprano) Norwegian National Opera Chorus Edward Gardner(Conductor) Norwegian National Opera Orchestra Recorded live at Oslo Opera House, Oslo, Norway, August 20-25, 2024 Norway's popular soprano Lise Davidsen sings Wagner's opera "The Wandering Dutchman" live at her home base, the Oslo Opera. 2 CD set.In the summer of 2024, in a concert format, Davidsen sang the role of Zenta in The Wandering Dutchman. Of the role of Zenta, she said: "I love that she is a dreamer and a person of many beliefs. I love that she is a dreamer and a person of conviction in many ways. She has a mission in life and will do whatever it takes to fulfill it, and I admire people like that. She added, "I was asked to sing this role for a long time, but I kept putting it off because I thought it would be too difficult. Now that I have so many other Wagner roles lined up, I probably won't sing this role again," he said, suggesting that this could be a "once in a lifetime" experience. The concert also marked the appointment of British conductor Edward Gardner as the new music director of the Norwegian National Opera. Gerald Finley, who played the Dutchman, was internationally acclaimed for his masterful performance and his superb Lieder-like voice. The cast was full of talent, but the centerpiece of the production was Davidsen. The performance was rigorous yet compassionate, and the appropriate voice and movements clearly indicated Zenta's unwavering direction throughout the piece.
