Description:
What unites these two unique musicians - Scheidt from 17th century Germany, Satie from 20th century France - in the 2010 Lauten Company release of "Timeless," an album of music by Philip Glass (1937-) and Tarquinio Merla ( 1594or1595-1665)? 1594or1595-1665), is "an exciting journey through time, a fascinating idea! Here, two worlds, more than 300 years apart and thousands of kilometers from each other, meet. You might think that's a big contrast, but the recordings show a surprising number of similarities" (NDR Kultur), won the Echo Classical Award for "Ensemble of the Year," received excellent reviews worldwide, and became an international bestseller! It was an international bestseller and received excellent reviews worldwide. Since then, the ensemble has continued to surprise contemporary users with fascinating ideas combining ancient and contemporary music, such as "Beaver and Piazzolla" and "Dufay and Philip Glass. This new album, "Time Zones," also features an unexpected combination of separate composers, contrasting the music of French composer Erik Satie (1866-1925) with that of early German Baroque composer Zamuel Scheidt (1587-1654). Erik Satie was renowned for his unconventional compositions. His compositions exhibit a blend of humor, irony, satire, and seriousness. Satie's works on this album are performed by a baroque ensemble of old instruments, with new arrangements by contemporary composer and innovative cellist Beau Viguet and others. Included here are the famous Gymnopedie No. 3 and Gnosienne No. 4. Unlike many German composers of the time, Zamuel Scheidt, a leading composer of 17th century Germany three centuries before Satie, remained in Germany during the Thirty Years' War. He survived the war years by continuing his teaching and composing work in a meager fashion until order was restored and he regained his position as court music director, and despite the adverse circumstances, he carried out his official duties and kept his artistic convictions alive.Satie and Scheidt, though very different in time, share something in common in that they both followed their own, uncompromising paths in their musical careers. This album is a poignant album that reveals surprising similarities between these two rare composers, three centuries apart. Sony Music
