Dedicated to raising the status of the saxophone in classical music, Amy is a versatile player of both soprano and alto saxophones, and actively performs contemporary works. With a sound that is a perfect blend of elegance and aesthetic mood, she is based in the UK and performs internationally, and has already been nominated for two Grammy Awards. This is her most distinctive album to date, exploring the relationship between classical composers and the folk music of Amy's native Australia. The red deserts of Australia and the hills of the Scottish Highlands, folk music from around the world, and history are all major influences on the album. Folk music has absorbed national identities and has been a source of solace time and time again in times of misfortune." At the heart of folk music lies the beating heart of humanity to which we return again and again. The creation of this music itself requires personal, familial, and social connections," Amy said.The album features works by Australian composers Peter Sculthorpe and Ross Edwards, a collaboration with William Burton, another composer and didgeridoo (an instrument used by the indigenous Aboriginal people of the Australian continent) player, and a European journey through works by Brahms, Falla Amy will also travel Europe with works by Brahms, Falla, Pessar, and Vaughan Williams. And James MacMillan's "Saxophone Concerto" (world premiere recording), composed for Amy, explores the archetypes of Scottish music.
