Ethan Iverson, who left Bud Plus, presents a remarkable work in the world of Bud Powell with a large ensemble! Stellar quintet with Ingrid Jensen and Dinah Stephens + Italian artists. Recorded live at the Umbria Jazz Festival. A Bud Powell tribute work by one of the best pianists of our time, Ethan Iverson, with a large ensemble. Ethan Iverson, a founder member of the Bud Powers, is an artist who has been exploring new horizons in jazz while at the same time being a historian and researcher, connecting and expressing both tradition and innovation. Since leaving Bad Plus, Iverson has expanded his activities to include curating Monk@100, a centennial celebration of Monk's birth at Duke University, and a piano concerto for the American Composers Orchestra. This project was commissioned by the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy.The Mosaic box contains the complete Blue Note recordings, and the Verve's "The Genious of Bud Powell" is used as a gateway to select, arrange, and perform songs by Bud Powell (related to Bud Powell) that have continued to inspire him throughout his life. The album also includes 16 songs, including 7 original compositions inspired by Powell's solos, phrases, etc. Iverson's desire to portray Bud Powell's music without harming it led him to create four compositions, "Bouncing with Bud," based on a 1949 session performance by the quintet with Sonny Rollins, Fats Navarro, Tommy Potter, and Roy Haynes. Dance of The Indels, Wail, and Thelonious Monk's 52nd Street, which was performed at the same session. The ensemble parts are arranged based on the harmonies and melodic ideas that were an important core of Powell's music, and feature Dinah Stephens, Ingrid Jensen, Ben Street, and Lewis Nash.As the title suggests, the entire work is exquisitely modern and stylish, with the dynamism of a big band. This is a remarkable work by Iverson, who shows his talent not only as a pianist but also as an arranger. Recorded live at Umbria Jazz Winter, December 29-31, 2018.
