It is an attempt to broaden the horizons of both listeners and performers by rediscovering familiar works through the use of unconventional instrumental combinations. “If you feel even a little bit of happiness while listening, that is ‘complete happiness’ for us,” the duo says. 【Track Listing】 ◆The album opens with Mendelssohn’s “Sonata No. 1 for Piano and Cello.” Here, an arrangement for piano and bassoon is performed, transforming the original’s lyrical melody into an exciting dialogue between the keyboard and the woodwind. ◆Next is the “Grand Concertante Duo” by Ignaz Moscheles, who was both Mendelssohn’s teacher and friend. Unusually for its time, this work was originally written for piano and bassoon. Characterized by a technically demanding piano part and the bassoon’s high register—which was exceptionally difficult for the era—it remains a significant challenge even for today’s performers. ◆At the heart of the album is a reinterpretation of Schumann’s “Scènes d’Enfants.” This famous piece for solo piano has been reborn as a duet for piano and bassoon through the meticulous arrangement by Petersen and Grigoryan. The addition of the “breath of the wind instrument”—the bassoon—creates a fresh, song-like sound. 【Performers】 ◆David Petersen is a master bassoonist with experience performing with prestigious orchestras, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. ◆Lilit Grigoryan is an Armenian pianist renowned for her exquisite technique and has been a Yamaha Artist since 2023. 【Recording】 ◆Recorded in April 2024 at the St. Johanns-Gemeindekorhaus in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, northern Germany. 【Product Specifications】 ◆The packaging is a digipak. The 24-page booklet (in German and English) includes liner notes by Eberhard Sprehe, a double bassist with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and musicologist. Manufactured in the EU, the disc is produced by Optimal Media, a German company well-known for its work with major labels.
