A comedy with Thielemann to spare. Christian Thielemann, principal conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden since 2012. Their 2019 Salzburg Easter Festival production of Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" is now available on CD. Directed by Jens-Daniel Herzog, this international co-production of the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Semperoper in Dresden, and the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan was a great success, with the Premiere taking place on April 13, 2019, the date of this recording. Originally scheduled to be performed in Tokyo on June 14, 2020 under the baton of Kazushi Ohno, it was unfortunately cancelled due to a new coronavirus infection. Meistersinger at Nuremberg" is the only comedy in Wagner's works in which none of the characters die. Thielemann calls it "the most contemporary theme of all, a complete statement of the will for reconciliation, reconciliation, and tolerance. Herzog's direction also moves the play to the present day, and the play-within-a-play raises a number of issues that are thought-provoking. Thielemann's musical direction is big and overwhelming from the beginning of the prelude.The singers are all talented and entertain us with their hearty banter and beautiful voices.
