This is the second album in the CAPRICCIO series by young pianist Cassandra Weiss, who previously revealed the charm of Stenhammar in her collection of his works. It features a selection of Stenhammar’s compositions alongside works by Sibelius—a composer who cannot be overlooked when discussing Nordic music. In contrast to the Stenhammar collection, which explored the appeal of lesser-known works, this album features well-known pieces by Sibelius. Nevertheless, she delivers a unique and rich performance, effortlessly playing pieces originally composed for orchestra—such as “Waltz in D Minor” and “Finlandia”—as if she were singing them.
