SACD hybrid disc. One of the hottest young conductors in the world today, Gustavo Gimeno, born in Valencia, Spain, leads the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra in the third release on the PENTATONE label, Ravel! Jimeno was appointed principal percussionist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2001. He was the assistant conductor to Mariss Jansons at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, and made his debut with the Concertgebouw in January 2014 as Jansons' understudy. He made his debut with the Concertgebouw in January 2014 as Jansons' understudy and became a conductor attracting worldwide attention. His debut performance in Japan as a conductor was with the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra in September 2013, followed by two visits to Japan in 2015. His tour in Japan with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in November of the same year was a great success, and his name has become well-known in the Japanese music world.Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloe" is a three-part ballet based on a Greek countryside novel, composed between 1909-12 at the request of Diaghilev's Russian Ballet Company. It is a masterpiece with the intellectual and classical clarity typical of Ravel, a great exponent of impressionist music. This is an ambitious performance by a young maestro who knows how to make an orchestra sing, as well as a performance with a clear vision that is typical of Hymeno, who has a percussion background. The coupling pieces, "Little Boat on the Sea" (arranged for orchestra in 1906 from the third piano piece "Mirror") and "Pavane for a Dead Princess" (arranged for small orchestra in 1910 from the original piano piece), are also beautiful and leave you speechless, and you can enjoy Hymeno's pursuit of colorful and transparent sound.
