Description:

A Masterful Performance for a New Era, Born from a Harmonious Partnership! Kazuki Yamada & the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Volume 4! SACD hybrid disc. Kazuki Yamada is a once-in-a-generation conductor who, since winning the 51st Besançon International Conducting Competition in 2009, has continued to rise to new heights without pause. This young maestro has earned widespread popularity around the world through numerous guest appearances with major international orchestras, as well as frequent collaborations with orchestras and choirs in Japan. Since 2016, he has served as Music Director and Artistic Director of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, and even greater achievements are anticipated. He has also served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande since 2012, and the partnership remains strong—so much so that his two-year contract was extended beyond the initial term. The fourth album in the PENTATONE series showcases the impressive maturity of this renowned duo. Debussy’s “Six Ancient Inscriptions,” originally arranged by the composer for piano duet from the incidental music “Songs of Bilitis,” is included here in the orchestral version arranged by Ernest Ansermet. The richly colored woodwind melodies are truly beautiful. Ansermet was a renowned 20th-century conductor who founded and honed the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. While paying tribute to the achievements of this great predecessor, Yamada and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande deliver a performance brimming with confidence, offering a solid showcase of music for a new era. Roussel’s “Bacchus and Ariane” was originally a ballet in two acts; the first act is performed as the First Suite and the second act as the Second Suite, and they are often performed as concert suites in their original form. Each suite forms a continuous musical whole, featuring fluid and brilliant orchestration. The meticulous control of timbre is superb, fully conveying the appeal of the large orchestra. Poulenc’s *La Biche* is a ballet the composer wrote at the age of 24. Since he later reworked the orchestration and arranged it into a suite, the youthful musical ideas have been skillfully enhanced—through effective use of brass, for example—making it a truly captivating piece. The recording technology of the PENTATONE label is also superb, and the sound quality is impeccable. Kazuki Yamada and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande have also received acclaim for their first (PTC5186358), second (PTC5186518), and third (PTC5186557) releases, which feature a variety of ballet music. This latest release is sure to become a talking point as well. King International
