The CD release comes at the perfect time. She was named one of “Beauty: Disruptors: 12 People Leading the Beauty Industry in a Positive Direction” by the U.S. magazine ALLURE, attended the Met Gala—a fashion extravaganza where global stars gather—and, by embracing her “plus-size” figure positively, has been sending messages of encouragement to women who struggle with body image, and members of the LGBTQ community. As a result, attention is focused not only on her music but also on her fashion, body positivity, and her advocacy for the women’s empowerment movement. With 1.3 million Instagram followers and total YouTube video views exceeding 71 million, it’s clear just how much buzz she’s generating. Born in Houston, Texas, and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, LIZZO began her career as a rapper and singer in her hometown in the early 2010s, releasing her debut album, *LIZZOBANGERS*, in 2013. That same year, she served as the opening act for HARMARSUPERSTAR’s U.S./U.K. tour, and in 2014, she appeared on the long-running American music show *The Late Show with David Letterman*. In October 2016, she released her debut EP, *COCONUTOIL*, on Atlantic Records, and the track “Good As Hell” from that EP became a hit. Produced by Ricky “Wallpaper” Reed, the song was also featured on the soundtrack for the movie *Barbershop: The Next Cut*. As she began to rapidly garner media attention and fan support, she had her big breakthrough in 2018 with the hit “Boys.” The song was selected for Pitchfork’s “100 Best Songs of 2018,” Time’s “10 Best Songs of 2018,” and Paste’s “50 Best Songs of 2018,” among others, becoming one of the defining anthems of the year. Now, her long-awaited new album, *CUZILOVEYOU*, is here. She reportedly began working on it in the studio in late 2018. She enlisted Sam Harris of X Ambassadors as her producer. In what she describes as a “haunted studio,” he helped LIZZO step outside her musical comfort zone. “He got inside me and brought out a vulnerability I didn’t even realize I had.
