Saint-Saens 100th anniversary! The Liège Philharmonic Orchestra led by Kantorov will perform two symphonies, "With Organ" and "Metropolitan Rome"! Saint-Saens (1835-1921) celebrated his 100th anniversary this year (2021). In this commemorative year, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, led by Jean-Jacques Kantoroff, releases a recording of his complete symphonies. Following the first release (BIS SA-2460) of Symphony No. 1, Symphony No. 2, and Symphony in A major, the second release includes Symphony No. 3 "with Organ" and Symphony in F major "Metropolitan Rome"! The talented Saint-Saens entered the Paris Conservatory at the age of only 13. Inspired by the symphonies of the great German and Austrian composers, he began to explore the genre as a teenager. Symphony in F major "Metropolitan Rome" was completed in a short period of time between June 2 and July 25, 1856, when Saint-Saëns was 21 years old, in order to enter the St. Cecil Society Composition Competition held in Bordeaux, France. As is typical of the genius of Saint-Saens, it is a large-scale work in four movements. The first performance took place in Paris in February 1857, and was repeated in Bordeaux on June 10 of the same year under Saint-Saens' own direction. The organ soloist for the "With Organ" is Thierry Esche, a renowned organist and composer!
