Boz Scaggs is a singer who has been active for over half a century. He began his career in the 1960s as a member of the Steve Miller Band and released numerous hit songs in the 1970s.
He is scheduled to tour six cities across Japan in May 2026. Now, an album capturing Boz Scaggs’ 1976 New York concert is finally here!
In 1976, he released *Silk Degrees* on Columbia Records. When the track “Lowdown” charted high on the singles charts, the album also became a massive hit, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard charts. Shifting away from the blues, R&B, and country influences of his early work, this album—created with an urban, sophisticated sound and bitter lyrics—defined the subsequent AOR genre and became a classic that is still talked about today.
From the *Silk Degrees* tour, which ran from April 1976 through September of the following year across North America, the UK, and Germany, the July 31 concert in New York was recorded and broadcast by Boston’s WBCN-FM for promotional purposes. This album is a live recording using that broadcast audio, capturing the entire concert, including the encore.
Opening with the modern classic “Lowdown” and closing with a cover of “You Are Mine” by The Vibrations—a 1950s vocal group that represents one of his musical roots—the album offers a glimpse into Boz’s genre-spanning tastes. In addition to Jeff Porcaro, who appeared on the studio album, listeners can enjoy dynamic performances by the Porcaro brothers—including Steve and Mike—prior to the formation of TOTO. This is a valuable release that takes us back to the starting point of history.
