Weather Report, formed in 1970 by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, debuted in 1971 with the album Weather Report. They dominated the crossover scene until their disbandment in 1986 and still enjoy immense popularity today. Now, a rare archive recording from their 1980 sessions is released!
Amidst the commercial success of 1976's "Black Market" and the following year's "Heavy Weather," they released the Grammy Award-winning "8:30" in 1979. Riding this momentum, the group added percussionist Robert (Bobby) Thomas Jr. in 1980, embarking on a U.S. tour and performing in Japan. They then recorded over two days, July 12-13, at a studio in L.A., resulting in the November release of 'Night Passage'.This album is an archival recording of the band's November 4th performance in London, the same month the album was released.
Featuring mostly numbers from 'Night Passage', this album includes the beautiful waltz "Three Views of a Secret" by Jaco Pastorius, a bass solo, and Shorter's "Port of Entry". The mid-section duo, enhanced by Zavinal's keyboards, delivers a truly spectacular performance.
