Description:
The 31st installment of the “Contemporary Japanese Composers Series,” proudly presented by “Fontec: Contemporary Music.” Shoko Shida was born in Shizuoka Prefecture. After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts, she served as a lecturer at the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and Ferris Women’s Junior College, as well as a professor at the Taiwan National University of the Arts, before settling in Cologne, Germany, in 1980. Her works have been performed at music festivals around the world (including the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, the Witten Festival of Contemporary Music, the Boswil Music Festival, the Cologne Tanzforum, ACL Hong Kong, Rome, the Saarbrücken Contemporary Music Festival, and the MDR Summer Festival “Errelettronica,” among others), as well as in the United States, Japan, and Taiwan. He has also composed numerous works for theater and dance; in particular, “Orpheus” (The Life of Jean Cocteau), choreographed by Jochen Ulrich, has been performed more than 40 times at dance festivals across Europe.
