Description:

50th anniversary of Kertesz's death. New DSD reissue of Kertesz & VPO's representative recordings! A selection of rare small pieces with IPO are included in the margins. The overwhelming masterpiece that will remain in history is finally being released as a Tower project disc! The historic masterpiece "New World" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, not only one of Kertesz's most famous recordings, but also one of the most brilliant recordings by DECCA in the history of vinyl records, is finally being released as a Tower special edition! It is a full-fledged debut recording of Kertesz, and the fact that the 31-year-old conductor performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the time of recording is an element of surprise in itself, but the performance content and the astonishing recording by the DECCA recording team of the time that goes along with it have been so well received not only on the original analog release but also on SACD and high-resolution recordings by various companies in the CD era and beyond. It is not often that such a recording by the DECCA recording team has been so well received not only on its first analog release, but also on SACD and high-resolution CDs. The same DECCA recording has been released several times on SACD as well, as it is a superb recording that rivals Scholte's Ring.Although DSD sound sources have not evolved much, mastering has been progressing rapidly, so we have tried not to compete with DSD in this project so far, but we could not leave out "New World" for the 50th anniversary of Kertész's death in 2023. In addition to "New World," this reissue includes three new pieces from the collection of Smetana and Dvořák pieces titled "Bohemian Rhapsody" recorded with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra the following year, excluding the overture to "The Sold Bride" (the other two pieces are not included in this issue due to recording time constraints). This album is one of the two recordings made by the Israel Philharmonic and Kertesz for DECCA, and is a very valuable source. Although Kertesz is well known for his recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra on DECCA and with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra on other labels, there are no other live recordings with the Israel Philharmonic, even though they have performed together many times. Moreover, "Moldau" and "Slavonic Dances" were recorded with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, so although the orchestras are different, the rarity of the recordings was taken into consideration when deciding to couple them with the "New World" recording. I also have a connection with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. The place where he lost his life at a young age was Tel Aviv, and the last concert of his life was with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, so this posthumous project is also meaningful as a related sound source to the Mozart Requiem released at the same time. For the detailed description of each piece, please refer to the new preface by Yudai Yamano, but in terms of sound quality, the DSD conversion and mastering were done to the best of the current state. Please enjoy the true splendor of this historical recording. (1/2)
