Description:
A captivating cornet album performed by the masterful Eric Aubier! Parisian music for the cornet, performed by Eric Aubier, the successor to Maurice André! Eric Aubier, a French virtuoso and protégé of the legendary trumpeter Maurice André, carries on his master’s tradition. Having recorded numerous works for the trumpet to date, Aubier has now turned his attention to a collection of pieces composed during the 19th and 20th centuries—a period marked by remarkable advancements in the cornet. The cornet, which is now primarily used as the star instrument in brass bands, was developed around 1828 following advancements in valve technology for brass instruments. It gained popularity for its warm, beautiful tone and the wide range of expression it offers through its intricate passages. Titled “Music of Paris around 1900,” this album brings together works written during the year of the Paris World’s Fair—the largest in the history of the event—which marked the end of the 19th century and offered a glimpse into the 20th, a time when various forms of culture and the arts were experiencing remarkable development. With the beautiful tone and exceptional technique he inherited from his mentor, Aubier performs a number of masterpieces for the cornet—including the “Brilliant Fantasy” by Jean-Baptiste Urban, a virtuoso cornetist active in France at the time and author of a seminal method book for brass instruments—that are imbued with a sense of melancholy. This highly anticipated album is sure to captivate not only trumpet enthusiasts but all fans of wind instruments as well. Tokyo M Plus
