Description:

Asmik Grigorian sings Rusalka at Covent Garden! Rusalka is a water nymph who lives with her family in the pure waters of a forest lake. She falls in love with a prince who visits the lake, and asks the magician Yezibaba to sacrifice her voice to take human form. Rusalka is discovered by the prince and taken to his castle. Unable to speak, she tries to make love to him, but he transfers his heart to a foreign princess.......In the late 18th century, Czech poet and playwright Jaroslav Kvapil wrote a play based on a Slavic folk tale In the late 18th century, Czech poet and playwright Jaroslav Kvapil wrote a libretto based on the theme of a water nymph from a Slavic folk tale, and Dvořák composed the opera "Rusalka" in his last years. While the heavy sound and use of light motifs show the influence of Wagner's music, the nostalgic melody, which is fragrant with Czech folk sentiment, and the delicate expression of sound that depicts the world of water are unique to Dvořák. The work, which was most famous for Rusalka's aria "Song to the Moon," has been widely performed in opera houses around the world in recent years and has come to be regarded as a milestone in Czech opera. The production of "Rusalka" by Ann Yee & Nathalie Abrahami, a new production at Covent Garden in February 2023, is unique in that it places "environmental sustainability" at its core concept and reuses stage design and costumes that had been produced at Covent Garden in the past and had been stored away. It is a unique production. The role of Rusalka will be sung by Asmik Grigorian, a talented soprano who is gaining popularity for her true-to-life performance singing. She sings with a clear voice that brings Rusalka's out-of-this-world appearance to life and captivates the audience. David Butt Philippe, whose extensive repertoire has made him a favorite of opera houses around the world, sings brilliantly as the Prince who awakens to true love after his betrayal of Rusalka, and Sarah Connolly is masterful as the eerie yet comical Yezibaba. Semyon Bishkov, music director of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra since 2018 and an expert on Czech music, spins this fantastical "Rusalka" with his elegant baton. Naxos Japan
