Description:
New release from the World Music Archives series of the Geneva Museum of Ethnology in Switzerland. This rare collection features the ancient sounds of the ancient qin, a traditional Chinese musical instrument that is listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The ancient qin is a traditional Chinese stringed instrument with a history dating back to BC. This collection is a two-disc set of rare performances left in the 1970s by Cai De Yun, one of the leading 20th century Chinese performers of the instrument. Born in Zhejiang Province, China, Cai De Yun was mainly based in Hong Kong after the war, and was a leading figure in the transmission of the ancient qin to the next generation (he passed away in 2007 at the age of 101). The album contains 27 classical pieces, including the ten most famous pieces of Chinese classical music, such as "Plum Blossom Three Tales," "Fishing and Logging Question and Answer," and "Ping Sha Falling Geese. The soft tones and elegant melodies spun by the strings made of old-fashioned silk, which is different from metal or synthetic fibers, will wash your heart. The lingering sounds and gaps in the sound seem to bring scenic landscapes to mind. Released on the MEG-AIMP / VDE music label of the Geneva Museum of Ethnology in Switzerland, a treasure house of world music archives along with Folkways and Ocora. 56 pages, with Japanese abstract of the English text of the booklet commentary.
