Description:
Formed by the Memphis garage band Gentries ("Keep on Dancing"), Lord of Mischief changed their name to Paris Pilot when they signed with Stax-owned HIP, and this is their only album released in 1969. This album is the only one released in 1969. The five-piece band consisted of David Mayo (vo), Jimmy Tabaton (g), Ken Woodley (key), Ray Sanders (b), and Larry Wall (ds), and from the beginning of "Beat Goes On" (a cover by Sonny & Cher), the fuzz guitars and organs were the mainstay of the band's sound. The psychedelic sound is a hybrid of soul and blues rock, like a more refined version of Vanilla Fudge. Recorded at the prestigious Ardent Studios, this is also one of the first important records in which Don Nix was fully involved (producing, writing, arranging, engineering, and even some vocals).
