SP Recordings on SACD! The overwhelming artistry of violinist Psihoda, who was highly praised by conductor Toscanini. Vasya Psihoda (1900–1960) was “undoubtedly a master of the 20th-century violin world.” Born into a family descended from Gustav Mahler, he displayed his talent from an early age and honed his skills at the Prague Conservatory under the renowned professor Malák. Later, after hearing the young Psihoda perform in Turin, the renowned conductor Toscanini praised him, saying, “Not even Paganini could play like this,” catapulting him overnight into the spotlight as the darling of his era. Active from the SP era through the LP era, he continued to captivate countless fans with his virtuosic technique. This collection features recordings from the peak of his career. In particular, the first two pieces showcase dazzlingly precise and fluid playing; their continuous succession of mesmerizing techniques draws the listener into a world of wonder and excitement. For the SP record playback tracks, we’ve captured the sound from the legendary Victrola (Credenza) player. We used an old analog microphone from the 1950s during recording, taking great care to ensure the sound retains its core and depth.
