In 1983, at the age of 24, he became principal player of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr Symphony Orchestra) and won the first prize at the ARD Munich International Music Competition in 1986. A legend in the German trumpet world, Reinhold Friedrich is a trusted advisor to Claudio Abbado, and since 2003 has also served as principal of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, a European all-star orchestra, and as artistic director of the Brass Ensemble. This album features excerpts from Brahms's late cycle of songs for bass and piano, "Four Solemn Songs," as well as a piece about the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin by the highly acclaimed Hungarian composer and organist Szatmáry Szatmáry, who is also a member of Ligeti's highly regarded trumpet ensemble. In Memoriam... from Mahler's Symphony No. 3, which is also the title of the album. Be mindful! with Essen Cathedral organist Sebastian Küchler-Blessing, the album's title piece, is a dialogue between contemporary works written as a reaction to the horrors of the Third Reich and arrangements of Romantic works.Christina Schoch (recorder) and her beloved sister and brother Andre Schoch (trumpet player of the Berlin Philharmonic) also participate in the recording, and the duo with both of them is one of the highlights.
