Laloum's new recording of Schumann and Schubert, with his delicate and beautiful tone, is a must-see. The Davidian League, a fictional artistic alliance conceived by Schumann, is supposed to be people who fight to create something new against old art that clings to conservative ideas. The works were published under the names of two personified figures, the intensely passionate Florestan (F) and the quiet, contemplative Eusebius (E), and the 18 pieces, typical of Schumann, are signed "F" and "E," indicating their respective personalities. Schumann was so attached to this work that he later said, "Whenever I was happy playing the piano, it was when I composed this.Laloum's sensitive sensibility is a perfect match for the piece, and she skillfully plays through the changing expressions of each piece, sometimes dreamily, sometimes meditatively, and sometimes dourly. And in Schubert's final piano sonata, No. 21 in B-flat major, D960, Laloum leads the listener into Schubert's profound world of sound with beautiful soft tones, serenely depicting the sublime beauty of this piece.
