The World of a Famous Author’s Prose The album *Trevor Baca: Stirrings Still*, featuring music set to texts by Irish author Samuel Beckett, narrated by Paul Griffiths and performed by the Jack Quartet, is being released on the ECM New Series. Beckett, known as the author of the play *Waiting for Godot* and for exploring themes of absurdity and human existence, completed his final prose work, *Stirrings Still*, in 1987; it was published the following year, in 1988. In 2006, Griffiths—a renowned British musicologist and music critic—was commissioned by Manfred Eicher to find a composer capable of creating music that would resonate deeply with the text, while respecting the meaning of its words and staying as close as possible to the original text in the recording. Ten years later, in 2016, Griffiths met the Jack Quartet at Harvard University while they were rehearsing Trevor Baka’s *Akasha*. The result is this album. The world of Beckett’s work is deeply expressed through Trevor Backa’s music, featuring narration and a string quartet. The Jack Quartet, formed in 2025, is an American string quartet specializing in contemporary music and is a highly accomplished ensemble that has even been nominated for a Grammy Award. Trevor Baka, an American composer of contemporary music born in 1975, is known for his unique style that explores themes such as magic, light, and lost ancient texts. *O-card format Universal Music/IMS
