Piano virtuoso Aldo Ciccolini, who passed away in February 2015 at the age of 89 at his home in Paris, France, was born in Naples in 1925 and entered the Naples Conservatory at the age of 9. He studied piano and composition, making his debut at the age of 17 with Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2, and at 22 became the youngest professor at his alma mater. Later, at the age of 24, he moved to Paris after winning the International Long=Thibault Competition, eventually becoming a naturalized French citizen and a renowned pianist representing the French musical world for many years, and after becoming a professor at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 46, his activities became international and he visited Japan many times." Ciccolini, an interpreter and advocate of "French modern music" and a mentor to younger musicians, has recorded Debussy's works digitally in 1991. This is a very fine album with clear and well-balanced pianism. The recordings, made at the renowned La Chaux-de-Fonds and Musique de la Salle, are also very beautiful, and the performances are superb, showing a polished sense of beauty. All recordings were remastered in 2009 in the presence of Ciccolini himself, and he was very pleased with the results. This box also includes a song cycle with Janine Michaux (1914-1976), one of France's most famous lyric sopranos, who was also an opera singer. Warner Music Japan
