Maximilian Hornung

Maximilian Hornung's solo debut for Sony Classical. This 2010 album marks Maximilian Hornung's debut recording for Sony Classical. The album is a collection of pieces that are full of the passionate "songfulness" that is one of Hornung's specialties, spanning various periods from Bach to Chaplin, and includes not only original compositions for cello but also arrangements for cello from piano, violin, and other pieces. Of particular note is Hornung's own arrangement for cello and piano of Mahler's "Song of the Wandering Young Man" (world premiere recording), which is placed in the center of the album. The essence of the original songs, with their great emotional ups and downs, such as the crush of adolescent love and the pain of lost love, is expressed in a woodsy manner, as if the cello were speaking to the audience with human emotion. The cellist, Milana Chernyavska, is a Ukrainian-born German pianist who has been an important chamber music partner not only as a soloist but also with Julia Fischer, Lisa Batiashvili, David Garrett, Daniel Müller-Schott, the Vogler Quartet, and many others. He is also a member of the Sony Music
