When one thinks of Vandt & NDR, one thinks of the many masterful and atmospheric performances by BMG, but I was surprised at the clarity of the sound quality of the two recordings released on CD for the first time from the original NDR tapes. The sound is not clouded by reverberation, and every detail is clearly audible, so the impression of the duo is renewed. The sublime climax from the Baba Yagar to the Great Gate in Kiev, as well as the exuberant "Pictures at an Exhibition" at the time of Vant's appointment as chief conductor, is unmatched (BMG, by the way, recorded in 1999 BMG recorded it in 1999). The Tchaikovsky performance with Boretto is one of the best, and the sound quality is also excellent. This is one of the recordings that Günter Henssler, the owner of this label, recommends.
