Description:
Also featuring virtuoso Daniel Hope! Enjoy the absolutely beautiful sounds of the Violins of Hope Collection, performed on the anniversary of the Holocaust, on this SACD Hybrid disc. The Violins of Hope album is performed on instruments owned by Jewish musicians before and during the Holocaust. These instruments were restored by string instrument makers Amnon & Avshalom Weinstein of Israel, who founded the "Violins of Hope Project" and are now named the "Violins of Hope Collection". Included in the collection are Schubert's String Quartet No. 12, "Quartet Interlude," Mendelssohn's String Quartet No. 6, and Jake Heggie's new "Reading," inspired by the history of the violin. Schubert's unfinished string quartet is a work of intense agitation and sublime lyricism. Meanwhile, Mendelssohn wrote the quartet as a requiem for his late sister Fanny, a late masterpiece he wrote only two months later at the tragic age of 38, unaware that he was about to meet a tragic fate.Performers include the virtuoso Daniel Hope and the remarkable violinist Sean Mori, who is still in his teens. Sasha Cook, who has also performed at the Metropolitan Opera in Heggie's works, is still on the bill. Cook is a Grammy Award-winning 2011 performer of Adams' "Doctor Atomic," a live recording full of prayer and hope made on the anniversary of the Holocaust in 2020. King International
