Following *Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2* (777324-2), this is the second volume in a collection of symphonies by Swedish composer Nathaniel Berui. Berui, who held a veterinary degree and continued composing while serving in the military, created music that is rich and profound, drawing on the traditions of the late Romantic period. All of his works possess a distinct narrative quality (such as Symphony No. 1, which was inspired by the sinking of the Titanic), and this recording is no exception. Symphony No. 3 was originally conceived as a single movement and focused entirely on portraying “man.” However, Beluy later felt that “something was missing,” so he added another movement to represent “woman” and titled the work after the “power” of life that permeates the entire piece.
