French composer Georges Onslow (1784-1853) was already known as the "French Beethoven" in his day. His exceptional talent is especially evident in his numerous chamber works. On this SACD, pianist Markus Becker performs with the Marlott Quintet, revealing Onslow's virtuoso side. Both the Woodwind Quintet Op.81 and the Sextet Op.30, which served as concertos for virtuosos to play in the salon, fully satisfied the tastes of the Parisian high society.Onslow was five years old when the French Revolution began, at which time his life as an aristocrat from England was completely over, and young Onslow spent the next two decades traveling around Europe, first in Hamburg with Jan Ladislav Dusiek, then in London with Johann Baptiste Cramer, and finally After returning to France, he was educated by Antoni Reja in Paris.
