This is a collection of live recordings and reissues from 78rpm recordings of Josef Gingold (1909-1995), one of the most famous violinists and teachers of the United States in the 20th century. Josef Gingold was born in Imperial Russia, immigrated to the United States with his family in 1920, and came to Europe in 1927 to study with Ysaÿe. He was a member of the NBC Symphony Orchestra, concertmaster of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra, and taught at Indiana University Bloomington from 1960 until his death, where he produced Jaime Laredo, Joseph Silverstein, Joshua Bell, Martin Biber, and others.
