Though his works for guitar are few in number, their significance lies in their weighty fusion of Latin American folk music and European classical forms, making them a crucial part of Guastavino's creative output. 【Works】 ◆Guastavino's three guitar sonatas, composed between 1967 and 1973, are masterpieces considered the pinnacle of his instrumental works. While adhering to the traditional European three-movement form, these sonatas skillfully weave Argentine rhythms like the Zamba and Milonga into their fabric. Furthermore, the second movement of Sonata No. 1 serves as a memorial to his brother, and Sonata No. 2 incorporates jazz-like harmonies.Additionally, the other short pieces are arrangements from piano works in which Guastavino excelled. 【Performance】 ◆Leonardo Palacios, a guitarist from Uruguay, Argentina's neighboring country, is a guitarist and educator who authentically carries on the cultural traditions of the Spanish-speaking "Río de la Plata" (La Plata River Basin) region. On this album, he showcases his own arrangements and also contributes liner notes, revealing his side as a Guastavino scholar. 【Recording】 ◆Recorded in Dordrecht, Netherlands, from May to December 2024.
